Texting while driving incident

A Hawthorn Woods man died after being struck by a car while he was changing a tire on his pickup on the shoulder of Illinois Highway 53 near Rolling Meadows. The driver in the fatal crash was allegedly looking at her cell phone when she hit the victim’s car, which caused him to be pinned and terribly injured.

The driver, who failed to show up to court last Thursday for citations she received for the crash, was cited with texting while driving, improper lane usage and driving on the shoulder. Prosecutors are now weighing whether or not to pursue more serious charges against her.

Distracted driving is, unfortunately, a common cause of accidents. The reason texting while driving is so dangerous is because it cases someone to look down at his or her cell phone instead of at the road.
