Few Midwestern campus sexual assault cases result in arrests or convictions.

A recent Chicago Tribune survey of six universities in Illinois and Indiana found that of 171 campus sexual assault cases reported since 2005, police investigations resulted in only 12 arrests and 4 convictions. The rate is far below the national average, leaving most victims with no resolution to their case.

In the midst of this alarming trend, the Department of Education has begun a new initiative to encourage universities and police to more aggressively pursue reports of sexual assaults on campuses. But, because many of these cases involve alcohol, authorities tend to have a difficult time assessing the facts when comparing conflicting accounts from the suspects and their accusers.

If you or someone you know has been the victim of sexual abuse, you should speak with an Illinois personal injury attorney to assess a potential claim. To speak with an experienced sexual abuse lawyer, please click here.
