Earlier this week a Chicago Woman was killed by a drunk driver in a DUI hit-and-run in the Back of the Yards neighborhood of Chicago. The Cook County States Attorney’s Office said a 69-year-old man who has a history of drunk driving, had a blood-alcohol content of nearly four times the legal limit when he drove his Jeep Cherokee north on Ashland through a red light at about 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday, killing a woman while she was crossing the street.
Witnesses reported seeing the Cherokee head north after the crash through an alley seconds before a Chicago Police sergeant arrived at the scene. The sergeant curbed the SUV on 45th Street. According to Assistant State’s Attorney Patrick Waller, the driver could barely stand under his own power and an empty bottle of gin fell out of the Jeep as the driver stepped out of the car.
Waller also said, the Driver was then taken to Mercy Hospital, where doctors determined his blood alcohol level to be at 0.316 percent, or nearly four times the legal limit.
