A Chicago man has been charged with aggravated DUI and reckless homicide after crashing into a motorcycle on Sibley Boulevard, killing the rider. The drunk driver then pulled over and attempted to remove the license plates from his vehicle and flee the scene, but was detained by witnesses before he could get away.
Drunk driving accidents in Illinois and throughout the country often result in serious personal injuries or even wrongful death. Liability in such cases is not always limited to the driver charged with DUI. In some cases, the bar that served alcohol to the drunk driver may also be held liable for the victim’s injuries.
The criminal proceedings in the underlying matter are important as well. Facts, which are relevant in the criminal matter, may also be significant to a civil action, or the lawsuit against the driver initiated to recover damages for the victim’s injuries or wrongful death.
