A Crete-Monee High School boys basketball coach has been charged with the sexual abuse of a minor. The coach, Matthew Ryndak, reportedly turned himself into police last Wednesday on charges of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. According to the Will County State’s Attorneys Office, Ryndak now faces eight counts of the sexual abuse charges for allegedly inappropriately touching a high school boy in September, October, November and December of 2010. He was released from prison after posting a $10,000 bond. A police statement has indicated that none of the acts of sexual abuse occurred at the school itself. Aggravated criminal sexual abuse is a Class 2 felony with a possible sentence of three to seven years in prison.
According to reports, Ryndak has worked at the Crete-Monee High School since 2009. He led the boys basketball team to 25-4 record last year in his first year as head coach of the team. Ryndak was an assistant coach the previous season. He was placed on administrative leave in early May as the matter was being investigated by the Crete Police Department and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.
