Two Chicago Pedestrians Seriously Injured in Streeterville Pedestrian-Car Collision

Two pedestrians were seriously hurt yesterday in Chicago’s Streeterville neighborhood when they were struck by a pickup truck. The Chicago pedestrian accident occurred at the 500 block of North St. Clair St. at Illinois St. near the Tribune Tower. According to reports, the pedestrians were attempting to cross the street around 7 p.m. when a gray Chevrolet Silverado began to make a left turn onto Illinois St. The male and female pedestrians were each midway through the crosswalk when the Silverado struck them. The driver of the Chevy Silverado stopped at the scene of the accident to assist Chicago police with the car-pedestrian accident investigation.

Police report that both of the Chicago car accident victims were transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital immediately following the accident. Chicago Fire Department officials have revealed that both the victims were in serious to critical condition when they were taken to the hospital for treatment. An eyewitness to the accident reports that the female accident victim may have suffered a head injury as she was unable to speak and appeared to be bleeding from the head. The Chicago area car-pedestrian accident is still be investigated by local authorities.

Winnetka, IL, Teen Critically Injured in North Suburban Hit and Run Accident

A Winnetka teen was critically injured Friday afternoon after having been struck at the intersection of Green Bay Road and Winnetka Ave. in north suburban Winnetka, IL. The pedestrian-car accident occurred at approximately 4 p.m. According to local police, the injured teen was crossing the street when she was hit by another teen. The injured girl was transported to the intensive care unit at Evanston North Shore Hospital where she was treated for severe brain trauma related to the Chicago car accident. The driver reportedly panicked and then fled the scene following the crash.

Bail for the teenage driver of the vehicle involved in the car crash was set Monday at $500,000 by a Cook County judge. The teen is being charged with failure to report an accident, failure to give information to render aid and failure to exercise due care. The unusually high bond is due to the driver admitting that she had smoked marijuana the day before the accident. The parents of the teenage driver were unable to bond her out and she is being kept at the Cook County jail’s medical center at Cermak Hospital. Both blood and urine tests have been ordered of the teenage driver. She has not yet been charged with driving under the influence.

South Side Chicago Car-Pedestrian Critically Injures Three

A south side Chicago car-pedestrian collision left three people in critical condition in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood early Saturday morning. The accident reportedly involved a Chicago Fire Department (CFD) sport utility vehicle, an AT & T truck and a pedestrian. According to reports, the Chicago car crash occurred at approximately 8:27 a.m. at the intersection of South Kedzie and West 59th St. The force of the collision sent the Fire Department vehicle over the sidewalk curb where it struck an elderly female pedestrian.

The 71 year -old pedestrian accident victim was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center for treatment of her injuries following the accident. The drivers of the Chicago Fire Department vehicle and the AT & T truck reportedly suffered critical injuries as a result of the car accident. Those motorists were taken to Holy Cross Hospital. The Chicago car-pedestrian accident is still under investigation.

Chicago Pedestrian Killed in Semi Accident; Police Initiate Crosswalk Safety Program

A Chicago man was killed Saturday night when he was struck by a large tractor trailer at the corner of Chicago Ave. and Ashland Ave. in the city’s Wicker Park neighborhood. According to the Chicago Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Unit, 59 year-old Stephen Richardson was crossing the street around 10:30 p.m. when he hit by an 18 wheeler semi truck. Richardson, of the 2900 block of South Michigan Avenue, was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County following the fatal accident. He was pronounced dead by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office at 10:30 p.m. Charges related to the pedestrian-truck accident have not been filed according to Police News Affairs Officer Gabrielle Lesniak. The Chicago Police’s Major Accident Investigation Unit is investigating the fatality.

In a related story, the Chicago police have reinstated a sting operation aimed at cracking down on motorists that fail to yield to pedestrians. The program, which was announced on Monday, is aimed at Chicago’s East Lakeview neighborhood. Undercover police officers posing as pedestrians will be ticketing and fining motorists that fail to yield at pedestrian crosswalks.

The latest sting operation is aimed at preventing accidents such as the one that claimed the life of Stephen Richardson. Pedestrian Killed by Cab Driver in Chicago Car Accident

A 42 year old pedestrian was killed last Sunday when he was struck by a taxicab on the North Side of Chicago. Robert Deighton, a 42 year old resident of the 5000 block of Foothills Road in Lake Oswego, OR, was struck by a taxicab in the 5500 block of North Sheridan Road as the cab was leaving a driveway around 6:30 a.m. Deighton was taken to Advocate Illinios Masonic Medical Center, He was pronounced dead at 7:08 a.m. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office reports that public records show Deighton recently resided in the 1400 block of West Berwyn Avenue in Chicago.

The driver, 29 year old Desta Pawlos of Chicago, received a traffic citation for failing to stop when emerging from a driveway or alley. Pawlos is scheduled to appear in traffic court at 2:30 p.m. according to police. The Chicago Police Major Accident Investigation Unit continues to investigate the fatal Chicago car-pedestrian accident.

Chicago Pedestrian Killed in Hit and Run Accident on Northwest Side

A Chicago pedestrian was killed last night in a tragic hit and run accident on Chicago’s Northwest side. According to reports, 57 year-old Arturo Bracho was killed when he was struck by a rental truck near the intersection of North Cicero Avenue and West Grace Street at 10:30 p.m. Bracho was pronounced dead at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center around 12:03 a.m. according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

According to reports, an eastbound Budget rental truck struck Bracho as he attempted to cross Grace Street. The truck continued to travel east after Bracho was hit. The Albany Park District Police Department apprehended a man and woman a short time later at 3203 N. Kilbourn. Charges have yet to be filed against the two as the accident remains under investigation. If the hit and run driver that caused the death is not identified, the victim’s family may have an uninsured motorist claim against their own insurance company. If the at-fault party is identified, the family may have an underinsured motorist claim against their own insurance company.

Man dies in Chicago after being hit by a hit and run truck driver.

James Waddick was killed by a hit and run driver in Frankfort Square, Will County Illinois, on May 18, 2008. Authorities are looking for information about a pick up truck that they believe was involved in the fatal accident.
